Margaret River (Australia) ... Perth, the state capital. The town of Margaret River is located 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) inland from the Indian Ocean at a point about halfway between Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin in Western Australia's South West region. The river after which the town is named begins about 45 kilometres (28 mi) to the east. / Margaret River has become an extremely popular tourist destination and currently attracts over 500,000 visitors annually - not bad for a town of less than 4,000 people! The main attractions of the town are its proximity to excellent swimming and surfing beaches; the stunning old-growth forests that surround the town; the many internationally-renowned and smaller local vineyards in the region; and other lesser known attractions such as local art galleries, spas and health resorts, and more.
