I stayed near Negombo in March (10 min away) at a place called Waikkal, and one day I visited Negombo along with my partner and a taxi driver. Sri Lanka as a country has a very diverse range of religions, and Negombo is predominantly Roman Catholic. On almost every street corner there is a RC icon, and plenty of churches. Negombo is where a lot of the well known hotels are situated, such as Browns Beach, Seashells. The beach is very nice - some may argue the beaches on the south west coast are better, but these were lovely nevertheless.
