On the other side, when you dock, you are forced to use a taxi to take you to the beachside of the island where all the beach houses are. This is the most expensive part of the island as the taxi drivers have you exactly where they want you. Basically if you don't pay their price then you are stranded and its a long long walk to the nearest beach house! Saying that, the price isn't huge, just more expensive than what you would pay in Bangkok. You obviously then have to pay the same amount to a t... more |

Ko Chang is a much quiter island than the more famous ones you here about. This makes it a blissful and friendly place compared to the 'party islands'. The best places to stay are along the beachside and are generally huts with a net over the bed and an outside toilet/shower. Its located to the south west of Bangkok and almost in Cambodia. At the end of May/ beginning of June 2004 we headed off to Thailand for a 2-centre holiday. It was a special treat - my 30th birthday to be precise! I've always wanted to travel to Asia - the mysticism, and oriental delights have always intrigued me. I settled on Thailand - why - l love the food! Plus there is the choice of both city lights and the beach bumming about too - what more could a girl ask for! We spent in total - 5 nights in Bangkok and then flew down to the islands and had a further 7 nights in Phuket. To combine both parts of our trip into one review would have me typing out reams and reams of pages so lm going to split them ... Read the complete review

Kanchanaburi is the third largest province in Thailand, it borders Myanmar (Burma), and is situated to the West of Bangkok. The primary reason that most foreign visitors head for this province is the Bridge Over The River Kwai; made famous by David Lean's 1957 POW film of the same name. Along with the painful history this province also offers the tourist beautiful waterfalls and river valleys. Our holiday in Thailand was a pretty short affair, and because of that we had planned only to stay a couple of days in Kanchanaburi - so this opinion details a quick way to see a few of the main sights. Kanchanaburi is the nearest major centre to the Bridge Over the River Kwai and that's the main attraction. I don't usually opt for organised trips, preferring to do my own thing on public transport, but this is one occasion when I think the day trip is best. There is plenty to see and do, but it is spread over a fairly wide geographic area, involves multiple modes of transport and can benefit greatly from local knowledge. If you are staying a few days then I guess its easy enough, but if you want to do it in a day, you'll struggle. Organised trips from Bangkok, Cha Am and Hua Hin run fairly regularly and are good value. The one I did from Hua Hin ... Read the complete review

As we entered Sriracha Tiger Zoo I was struck by a small group of Buddhist monks who were posing for a picture in front of some plastic tigers as they left the park. If I had known then that my sole source of visual entertainment was departing I would have heeded the warning bells that rang at the sight of the garish, plastic animals. Unfortunately, however, I decided to enter the Zoo and sample 'delights' ranging from the 'Scorpion Queen' to the most inane animal shows I have ever witnessed. The former was especially entertaining as she stood in a dark corner with around fifty scorpions attached to her blouse. Somehow I just didn't feel the ... Read the complete review
