We walked down to the small beach and looked at the fishing boats that give the place an air of ... more |

When we had seen the most important sights of Lisbon during our stay at Easter this year we decided to discover a bit of the hinterland. We went to the train station Cais do Sodré and took the local train to Cascais (pronounced: Cash-ca-ee-sh, stress on the second syllable), it´s not necessary to know the timetable beforehand, one doesn´t have to wait long for a train. A return ticket costs 2.50 Euro. It´s a pleasant ride of 35 minutes with the river Tejo on the left, many kilometres wide here at its mouth, and houses, gardens, parks on the right, it´s nearly impossible to find out where one village or town ends and the next begins. Although Cascais ... Read the complete review

Now I am happily living in Llandudno I thought that I would write an opinion about our famous Great Orme but where do I start? There is such a lot to tell so this may turn out to be quite a long opinion! Ok, get yourself settled with a cup of tea, coffee, glass of wine, whatever and I will take you on a virtual tour. Just to give you a bit of background before we start The Great Orme is a headland 2 miles long, 1 mile wide and which rises to 207 metres above sea level at its highest point. It was formed 300 million years ago on a tropical seabed and is made from Carboniferous Limestone, which was subject to later volcanic activity causing it to ... Read the complete review

My family and I are great lovers of the beautiful Isle of Wight which many of you will already know if you've read some of my previous opinions. There are many reasons why we are attracted to the Island but some of the main reasons why we keep returning are because the Island is a very beautiful place and one of the few places in England today that remains unspoilt and has not become overdeveloped, there is still a vast amount of breathtaking scenery to enjoy and lots of coastal footpaths and other walks taking you further inland if you wish. My previous opinions have been about tourist attractions so I thought I'd have a change today and write about Shanklin ... Read the complete review

Last summer I went to Bournemouth and everything that could have gone wrong…. Did. This is no joke so please take this seriously although I admit it has been fun remembering all the things that went wrong and why the holiday ended up being a bit crap. Last Summer at around this time, on a rainy day with horrendous thunder storms, me, my mum, my dad and the dog set off to Bournemouth for what was to become a very unpleasant visit. I saw the thunder as an omen, a sign of bad things to come into this holiday. I mean, Bournemouth wasn’t my key idea of a fun holiday- especially if it was going to be raining! I had been looking forward to the holiday, ... Read the complete review

If you have not been to the Scottish Highlands then you are deprived. What a place to be, right at the heart of nature among the rugged terrain, breathtaking scenery, heather clad mountains, fresh, clear running rivers and streams and a host of wildlife if you care to look. I have just spent a short break in Dingwall, a small highland 'town' a little north of Inverness. Stayed at a reasonable hotel 'The National' and enjoyed the stay very much indeed. Everyone in Dingwall were so friendly, polite and courteous. Along the middle of the high street are placed stone tubs for flowers and every morning, one of the locals take ...
