Other locations...Newest Review: ... really took off with its fair share of cattle rustlers, outlaws and gunslingers. So why should you visit Las Vegas in this modern day and age? Well for a fairly small town it has over 900 19th century buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If you want to come and see an original 1800's town then this is the place to come. I particularly like the grand hotel which looked like something out of a Western movie. It was still as grand as the day it was built and it was strange to see such a big hotel in the centre of a little town. Part of the railway legacy I presume! Tourists haven't really discovered it... more |

When you say Las Vegas most people automatically think of bright lights, slot machines and huge over the top hotels. However, I'd like to tell you about the ORIGINAL Las Vegas. The original Las Vegas is in northeast New Mexico and is one of the oldest New Mexican towns. The notorious Comanche Indians mainly inhabited the area until some brave Spanish families founded the town. When the Santa Fe Trail was in full swing (a major trade route before the arrival of the railway), Las Vegas was an important stop enroute.
