Advantages: Beautiful scenery and lots to do

St Johann / Alpendorf is a wonderful little town in the Austrian Alps about 40 minutes drive from Salzburg. I stayed there recently as a guest of Alpine Summers for a weekend of action which was definitely an experience worth telling other people about. It is an ideal base for walking and cycling as well as more active sports such as rafting, canyoning, paragliding and even skiing and snowboarding on the nearby glacier. The town is friendly with some lively bars and excellent hotels. You can also go an a day trip to Salzburg for a real cultural experience. I would recommend this as a great place for a weekend, week or even a fortnight.
