Amsterdam is an absolutely unique city. It is vibrant, a treasure trove of extraordinary artistic riches and a living history of the last 900 years! As a quick break to celebrate our anniversary, my husband and I decided to head to Amsterdam. Last summer, my family and I went to the Netherlands, in particular we were in the north around the Friesian Lakes. The Netherlands is a low lying country much of which is below sea level; there is a saying in the Netherlands that ‘God created the world, but the Dutch created Holland’. I am half-Dutch and I love Holland. I think it is the laid back atmosphere, of a population which has learned to live in step with nature. Whenever I visit you can stop and talk to people, and they will always talk to you. The other great thing is that the majority speak English as well as French and German. I am not gay or nothing nor a pothead but I still like to go to the Netherlands. And when I do I have to go out to this place called Ameland. Its like a small little island about 3 miles by 10 miles. I went there because my family had lived there before going to Afrika and I thought it might be fun. You get there by taking a plane to Amsterdam and then you get on a train. The people will help you do that but they will be all condescending to you for wanting to go there. You got to go to Leeuwarden and then you go find a ferry and ride out there. There isn't much to do so you rent a bicycle and ride around and go look at all the old villages and stuff. The ...
