Advantages: Lovely beaches, Castles, Villages
Disadvantages: None
Famous for its beautiful palm beaches, fishing villages and historic towns, wood carving industry, castles and forts which were historically the link between West Africa and the Americas on the Slave Trade route. The region includes the Kakum National Park which is a fascinating nature reserve of untouched rain forest and is home to some rare animals and birds. As in all parts of Ghana, the people are known for their hospitality and will welcome visitors to their fishing and trading villages and towns along the coast. The important towns and villages are: -Cape Coast: This is an important trading center and historic town and is the site of the historically famous Cape Coast Castle. -Winneba: This is a fishing village famous for its interesting pottery and ceramics, various festivals and lovely beaches. -Elmina: This is another important historical town which should be discovered on foot. Especially worth a visit is the Elmina Castle where the slaves were kept in dungeons awaiting ships to transport them to America. Beaches in this area are: -Saltpond Beach -Elmina near the castle -Brenu Beach which is a short distance from the castle -Sir Charles Beach resort in Winneba Places that must be visited in this area are: -Cape Coast Castle -Elmina Castle -Fort St. Jago -19th century Dutch Cemetry -The Posuban Shrines -Cape Coast Museum -Kakum National Park
