On the first day I looked around the town and found it to be very friendly and with attractive but slightly twee architecture. Then on the final day of my stay in Tanah Rata I walked out along the road to Bintang and found a tea plantation with a pleasant tea shop and factory tours. There was also a village for the workers complete with a small Hindu temple. I fou... more |

My favourite place in Malaysia was the Cameroon Highlands. In order to get there I took a bus from Georgetown on Penang to Ipoh, the provincial capital and another from there to Tanah Rata. The first thing I noticed was how much colder it was than the tropical lowlands, there was even a fire in the guesthouse I stayed in. I was there for three days not counting the night I arrived. Kedah Darulaman (or Kedah: a peaceful place) as it's widely used in Malaysia. IT's called green and yellow because it's the most important source for rice or "padi" plantation in Malaysia. It's also the colours of the state fooball team. The most known tourist attraction in Kedah must be the Langkawi Island, which you can find the description I wrote in Dooyou. It's actually very convenient to travel to Kedah, just under an hour from Penang Airport and you'll pass in to this land. Gunung Jerai (Jerai Hill) is the highest mountain in the northern Peninsular of Malaysia. It's rather undeveloped but it's a good place ... Read the complete review

As for shopping, each day will give forth a different place to go, be it the modern shopping complex or the street fairs or the Philipino markets..you choose. Kota Kinabalu (KK) is the capital city and main gateway to Sabah. It exhibits an exhilirating buzz of people with different cultures ... Read the complete review

Genting Highlands, situated near the border of Selangor-Pahang northeast of Kuala Lumpur, the most developed of Malaysia's hill resorts is popular with local and foreign visitors alike. There are numerous activities that one can indulge in: dining at the Genting Theater Restaurant, featuring shows by international stars, boating and the thrilling rides at the amusement park. The Genting Theme Park is divided into indoor and outdoor sections. Indoors, the theme park contains skill games, computerised as well as coin-operated, and an opportunity to go into mysterious landscapes, or experience double action. Another wonderful and beautiful island in the East Coast of Peninsula Malaysia. Perhentian, a Malay Language word which bears the meaning of "stopover". I was told by one of the local folks that the island was discovered by an English in early 20th Century who travelled to North Asia and stopped over at the island for a rest. Perhentian bears less fame compared with Langkawi, Redang, Pangkor and Tioman. This is because there is comparatively less development of tourism in the Island. It is good, because this means there will be less damage to the natural surroundings of the Island. I went there with a group of friends in 1996. Firstly, we had to ... Read the complete review
