Advantages: Restaurants, Architecture and Scenary
Disadvantages: None!
Panaji, or Panjim as it is also known, is the capital of the state of Goa in India.
As capitals go, this is small in comparison to london and the like. Yet the city itself is still bussling with lots of activity.
It is located relitavley middle on the state of goa's coastal belt. You can get a taxi to the town or a bus, as it is the main interchange for the buses to other parts of Goa and India.
The buildings in the city are very old looking and are of Portuguese architecture. They are very pretty looking in many ranges of colours.
There is also a big White Church in the centre with many steps cris-crossing leading upto the doors, which is great to sit and admire from the bench in the middle of the road.
There are many great restaurants in Panaji, from local to tourist. I personnally favour a restaurant called "Delhi Darbhar". Its like going into an Inidian Restaurand in the UK in the 80's. It has the typical Indian restaurnat decoration and music playing, whilst you are greeted by doormen wearing pointy indian style shoes and headdresses. The fod is great, with the menu having a wide selection of curries.
There is also a cinema which shows Indian and Western films. This is very popular and you need to get down early to purchase your ticket.
Panaji is situated on the estuary, so you can take many boat trips from here. There is also a Casion Boat for the evening.
Panaji also has some great shops for you to stock up on. There is the western Livi Jenas, Lacost and Benetton, plus many local shops plus an Indian department store. Shops do close during the day hours though when it is very hot.
****Summary********
In summary, if you are in Goa, do not miss out on a trip to Panaji. It is a great city to take in some Indian/Goan culture. It is a very pleasant laid back capaital to rival some in the world!
Summary: Amazing capital in laid back Goa
