I can really say Piran is the most beautifull town in the istrian peninsula, one important history of the town is left out, the real history of the town once known as the daughter of Venice , and the laborious and corragious sea man once the pride of Piran well known all over Istria and Dalmatia, the history of what happen to all the inhabitant with their beautifull venetian dialect, the real history of Piran is completly left out. Piran is just absolutely gorgeous! We travelled there for a day with a small tour company called RoundAbout Tours led by Tina. (Pick up a flyer from any tourist spot in Ljubljana or at hostels). The tour included a relaxed commentary of Slovenia's history, tour of Predjama Castle, lunch in a vineyard (prosciutto & wine better than Italy), seeing the Lipizzan Horses in Lipica and then exploring Piran. If I tell you that the small central European country of Slovenia has a coastline measuring only kilometres you probably won’t be surprised to hear that its best know coastal town has a population of only……All over Slovenia people tell you to visit Piran, nobody recommends any others from the handful of towns on the Slovenian littoral. In November 2005 (my third visit to Slovenia) I finally got down to the coast to find out if what they said was justified. Not everyone realises that Slovenia has a coastline, admittedly only a very small one (about 40km IIRC) but the jewel in the crown of the Slovenian coastline must be Piran, a small fishing port that has become a popular tourist resort, with adjoining Portoroz being the big resort that dominated its smaller neighbour. I have been to Piran several times over the last three or four summers, having often stayed in self-catering appartments only about 10m from the sea, although sadly there is no actual beach in Piran :-(.
