Piran (Slovenia) ... of Piran. The town resembles a large open-air museum, with medieval architecture and a rich cultural heritage. Piran is the birthplace of composer and violinist Giuseppe Tartini (born April 8, 1692), who played an important role in shaping its cultural heritage. The town's main square, Tartini Square (Slovenian: Tartinijev trg, Italian: Piazza Tartini), is named after him.

Piran is just absolutely gorgeous! We travelled there for a day with a small tour company called RoundAbout Tours led by Tina. (Pick up a flyer from any tourist spot in Ljubljana or at hostels). The tour included a relaxed commentary of Slovenia's history, tour of Predjama Castle, lunch in a vineyard (prosciutto & wine better than Italy), seeing the Lipizzan Horses in Lipica and then exploring Piran. The views of Croatia and Italy on either side of the Adriatic Coast are so memorable, the food and people all very nice. Well worth ...  Read the complete review

The train only takes you a far as Koper, an industrial town ...  Read the complete review

I have been to Piran several times over the last three or four summers, having often stayed in self-catering appartments only about 10m from the sea, although sadly there is no actual beach in Piran :-(. Getting there: Piran is probably best reached by car, since public transport options are somewhat limited. Although the main centre of ...  Read the complete review
