Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Filthy, uncomfortable and disgusting!
I booked our Pontins holiday after receiving a tip off on a cheap deal. I'd never been to Pontins before so I went in with an open mind. We took our then 9 mth old crawling son with us.
We stayed in a club appartment in Prestatyn (alledges to be the best accomodation on offer!??) Two bedrooms with two single beds in each, a lounge/diner/kitchenette with a sofa bed in and a bathroom.
On arrival we checked in and everybody was friendly enough but it was a bit like a cattle market but hey, you get what you pay for. We found our accomodation which on the outside looks like a lot of blocks of maisonettes. On first apppearances the accomodation looked to be clean and tidy but I was hugely mistaken!
Hubby started to unload the car whilst my son and I were in the apartment putting things away. I put a play mat down onto the floor but obviously my newly crawling son didn't stay on the mat too long. I was distracted and before I knew it he had crawling into a bedroom and had a tablet in his hand which was heading towards his mouth! I was mortified!!
This was the start of my cleaning frenzy. I asked hubby to take my son out in the pushchair whilst I deep cleaned the apartment (in hind sight I should have gone marching round to customer services but I just needed to get the place clean).
I pulled the beds out and the carpet had clearly not been hoovered anywhere (hense why there was a tablet still there), the dining table was filthy with food splashes etc all over it, even on the table top and legs, the floor was disgusting!! It took 6 buckets of water to make it somewhere close to clean. It was sticky to the touch and the water i was using was black!! The kitchen appeared to be clean enough but it got blitzed too. The bathroom was shocking, the floor was like the dining room area and the bath still had scum on it! It took me an hour and a half to clean the bits of the appartment that my son could touch!
I took the water samples and the tablet round to customer services and they got the tablet identified as Lysodren (which is heart medication). Can you imagine what consuming this tablet could have done to my 9 month old??
The assistant manager (who looked to be a teenager?!) offered to move appartments for us but I declined knowing that the apartment that we were in was clean enough for us as I had cleaned it myself.
Oh, I almost forgot about the sofa bed. I was incredibly uncomfortable and we were unable to sleep on it. Instead we took the mattresses out of the bedrooms each night and set up camp on the floor of the living area. Much more comfortable.
We had an awful start to our holiday and of a consequence I would never book with them again unless I had a full set of vaccinations against every known bug known to man and I would have to be wearing protective clothing 24/7.
If you have or are going to book with them, please take cleaning materials with you. . . you will need them, I promise.
Summary: NEVER WILL I GO THERE AGAIN!
