Advantages: A city full of places to discover - all within close proximity

Disadvantages: Can't think of any

The most delightful, unstressful and creative Christmas shopping I ever did was at the markets in Prague a few years ago. Well, that was the reason for going at that time of year. Of course, the opportunity to see one of the unsung jewels of Europe was high on my agenda. Yes, we did spend most of our time touristing, but the atmosphere was greatly enhanced by Christmas markets in every square, gluwein(mulled wine) being sold on street corners and horse-drawn carriages in full regalia, at stages with snow drifting slowly down, tho' not settling on the ground.

We saw all the sights, and walked until we were in agony and beyond, but the magic never wore off. Another of the highlights and something which is not to be missed, is a guided walking tour through the old city. The opportunity to chat to the guide and discuss his life contrasting it to ours brought up in the west, is something we fondly remember even today.

We spent a long weekend there and could have had 2 weeks. We loved just walking along the narrow alleyways and finding hidden gems of a city which has grown up and old off the tourist beaten track.
