Advantages: Very pretty resort - part of Alcudia - nice beaches perfect for families
Disadvantages: Limited nightly entertainment. Can be quite quiet
Puerto Pollensa is on the north west coast of Majorca / Mallorca and is approx 1.5 hr drive from the airport at Palma - and although it is one of the largest routes from the airport to a tourist resort - it isnt actually as bad as it seems.
The old Roman town of Pollensa actually lies about 5km inland from the coast - and is a fabulous day out if your into that kind of thing. Narrow streets dating back to the 18th century... it really is an interesting day out.
Pollensa is actually part of Alcudia.
Puerto Pollensa has a beautiful little port full of luxury yachts and coloured fishing boats. There are also a few natural beaches in the area also - and also an artificial one too! The waters are warm and shallow and a perfect for families - and they do even offer watersports too - which is great for all the family!
There are a large range of shops, bars, erstaurants, pavement cafe bars which are open daily throughout the seasonal months - but come October and they do ususally all close. There is also a Burger King on the coastal road - which wasnt very popular when it first opened, as it was said it ruins the pretty resort - but it has now been accepted and is very busy - especially around school holidays.
Pollensa also boasts some fantastic high class fish restaurants too - which must be tried... you really wont be disappointed!
One of the most beautiful attractions to Pollensa is Sierra De Tramuntana mountain range which surrounds the town. There are many walks through the hills which tourists are more than welcome to do - however a word of warning - make sure you take a guide book and plenty of water!!!
There are no water parks or racing tracks in Pollensa - it is probably best for a relaxing break with the family - entertainment is usually limited to hotels, with just the odd bar offering a artist every now and again.
Something to consider is a nice leisurely evening stroll after dinner - down the Pine Walk. It is a promenade lined with Palm trees and pine trees - very romantic.
There also is a few fiestas that overspill from Alcudia - which are something certainly not to be missed! If you are in town when the Fiestas are passing - make sure you join in, guaranteed lots of fun for all ages, with colourful lights and lanterns - they really are the perfect street party!
Towards the end of the year - there is also an Autumn fair - Fira De Tardor - which takes place in the town, selling loads of little arty crafty things, there is a jazz festival also and various games and sporting events!
Summary: This is perfect for those wanting a relaxing holiday - it is not the place for partying all night!
