Advantages: Good place to be

Disadvantages: I had to come home

We stayed at a campsite on the edge of the Spanish town Ribes de Freser. This town is in the Catalonian Pyrenees ,Ribes de Freser is about 20k from the French border by Bourg madam/puigcerda you can travel through Andorra or along the N152 through the mountain by tunnel , over the Collada de Tosas mountain pass Or coming from Barcelona it is 115 k on the C17 -N152.

Ribes de Freser is a large village /small town with the river Freser running through it. This town is popular place for skiers to stay. It is also popular with walkers, there are sheep dog contest in September.
Ribes de Freser is well known for the rack railway that goes up the mountain to where there is a medieval sanctuary. You can walk along the GR11 to this sanctuary now a hotel and tourist are. Nuria is a great starting point for many mountain walks and has ski opportunities too.
At a different station you can catch a train at the station to go to Barcelona or the opposite direction to puigcerda from there you can transfer to a train going to Tolouse.

Alongside the river there is a grassy area, a few benches and a small park with children's activities. We crossed over the river by bridge and between a couple of buildings and were in the town. There are a several shops; - bakers, butchers, tourist shops, ski shop, jewelers, fruit shops and a small convenience store or two. There are not any big supermarkets we used the small one on the edge of Ribes it was adequate a small parking area was opposite the supermarket. There are several hotels and bars. There is a paved area by the river with a few benches we sat there and ordered drinks from one of the several s surrounding bars. There is a Benedictine monastery founded by Count Wilfred
"The Hairy" in the middle of the town.

Parking is not easy in Ribes de Freser we managed to park by the side of the river walking into the town. We were amused when we crossed the bridge as there was a small island in the centre of the river with hens and chickens on it.
The houses along the river are painted pastel colours and have many flowers on the balconies.
There is also a small amount of parking by the train stations.
The camp site was about 5 or 6 minutes walk from the town centre.

I liked the town/village of Ribes de freser it was friendly cozy fairly attractive. We stayed there 3 years ago and we revisited this year I anticipate going back again one year.
Lots to do for walker's, skiers also fairly near some Dali museums and some of Gaudis work in gardens. Bird watching is good in the mountains flora interesting and there are many butterflies.

Summary: A really nice place to be .
