Newest Review: ... £45.00!!!!! Approx. 200 Lei!!! Sightseeing (and the poverty) This is in away a very sad account about Romania, which I saw mostly of Romania. You see there is a massive divide between Romania s citizens- you are ether very rich (like the Romanian hotel manager with his Bentley) Or you are exceedingly poor (Bugge* the ex. Soviet Union!!!) We noticed this on the way from Cluj Napoca the airport- a large Romanian town. There were no house lights at all in use in the city- there were also many holes in the roofs (even though the temperature was below -30 Celsius.) However in other parts of the city we saw beautiful mansions with large Range R... more

Before I even start to write about Romania you must put aside anything that you have ever been led to believe about this country. The reason why you have to do this is because your mind has been poisoned with false information about a truly wonderful country. Bucharest, the capital city, is a city full of magnificent French influenced architecture. With architecture such as the People’s Palace (now called the Parliament Palace because parliament have moved there office to this building), the Arc de Triumph (a copy of the one in Paris) and the Free Press Building. Not all of the architecture in the city is quite up to this standard but a lot of work is ...  Read the complete review

What do you know about Romania? Orphanages? True. They're good at football? True (a difficult lesson). Illegal immigrants? True. Hospitality? True. But if that is your opinion about this country, then I would say that you are wrong. It takes a lot more to know why the above are true, and that reason can be more important than the final result. I have gone to a town called Craiova countless times (for the first few times as part of a project that did various avtivities with mentally and physically handicapped children). It is not a tourist town, so I do not have a tourists impression of the place. It is a poor industrial town 200Km west of ...  Read the complete review

Romania is a beautiful country - I went there 3 years ago, as part of School Aid Romania, during the summer. After hearing all the reports on the news about Orphanages being in terrible states, I was more than a little nervous... What was it going to be like? Would the people be friendly? I hoped so, because I was due to spend 2 weeks staying with a family just outside Brasov. We travelled to Romania by minibus - an experience to say the least! The boarder between Hungary and Romania was a little "tense" as they are very strict about people going in and out of the country. All passports checked, a few smiles, and we were on our way - into ...  Read the complete review
