One of the nicest cities in Spain: however a cold one in winter...and the sea is far away - Advantages: Lovely city with nice monuments, Lots of young people and night life, Cheap city, great food, good wine - Disadvantages: Very cold in winter, If you look for the sea... go somewhere else

Salamanca is a very old town, being born and bred in Oxford I couldn't help drawing comparisons. Originally the city was built around the university (the oldest in Spain)and as a result the heart of the town displays some very impressive architecture, however unlike Oxford the period from which the architecture is from is very varied due to the constant growth of the city over the centuries.
