Advantages: Very british, scottish & irish resort - friendly and down to earth.
Disadvantages: For those wanting a typical majorcan retreat - this is not the place for you!
Santa Ponsa and its neighbouring resorts of Palma Nova and Magaluf are part of the district of Calvia, and lies on the south west coast of Majorca/Mallorca. The resort is just 12 miles from the airport so its a nice easy transfer to your hotel.
Santa Ponsa has a fantatic public transport link - with plenty of buses running through the town all day every day and you can get pretty much anywhere for a small charge.
Santa Ponsa has as more celtic theme to many of the pubs, bars and restaurants - and the british tourism are more than welcomed here also. If you like comediens and karoke etc then this is a great resort for you, and more Irish & Scottish bars are opening all the time.
The beach is quite large, with a climbing area for children to play on - it is however very popular with locals also.
There is a small secondary beach about 15 minutes walk away from the main beach. Both beaches have great facilities of shops, bars and restaurants and plenty of watersports on offer too. Shallow waters are ideal for swimming, but take note of the flag systems in operation here - there is hardly any strong currents but just be aware and follow the flag system for your own safety...
There are regular boat trips the operate from the main beach of Santa Ponsa - usually costs about £10 but is fantastic value for money. There is a bar on board with toilet facilties, and the captain usually pulls up whilst out in the sea, to allow you to jump off and have a cool down and swim.
Santa Ponsa has quite a wide range of cafe bars and restaurants - which makes it the ideal self catering resort. With the strong british, irish and scottish tourism here, the supermarkets and shops do stock alot of well known british products - perfect for the picky eaters among you!
It is a lively resort, although nothing like its neighbouring resorts of Palma Nova and Magaluf - the action starts early evening and there is quite a lot of live entertainment here to suit everyones taste. There are many karoke bars and you can usually here a moaning rendition of Elvis as you walk down the road - this is not ideal for those that are wanting a chic resort with posh restaurants and hotels, its a down to earth and friendly resort with many scottish & irish tourists.
There are 3full size golf courses in Santa Ponsa - however tourists are only allowed to actually play on one of the courses - which is Santa Ponsa I.
Santa Ponsa also has 2 very large fiestas (carnivals/street parties) too - which if you are in resort when its their fiesta - you must join in, you'll have a fantastic time!
Markets are available in nearby resort of Andratx every wednesday morning - taxis and buses will take you to the resort. Remember to haggle with the traders, you'll get the products at a fraction of the cost if you can barter with them!
There is a Aquapark - AQUALAND MAGALUF - in neighbouring resort of Magaluf and also a racing track too just outside the aquapark.
And another 'MUST' is Marineland in Palma Nova, with performing dolphin & sealion shows with parrot shows too. Entry prices change here dependant on the time of year and sometimes if you haggle with your holiday rep they can get it a little cheaper!
One other thing also - jump on the number 50 bus and it will take you through the history, culture and other sightseeing available. Its the easiest way to explore Palma through the day and if your into sight seeing you really wont be disappointed with what the district has to offer. The ticket to the bus is valid for 24 hours, so you can even hop on and off the bus anytime to allow time to stop off have some lunch, a drink and do a little exploring too.
If I think of anything else, I will be sure to update my review....
Summary: Very pretty resort - plenty to see and do and perfect for visiting neighbouring resorts.
