Advantages: Great on a hot day
Disadvantages: windy
Scarborough is a great place to visit as long as it's warm. It can be a wild and windy place in bad weather, but I had fond memories of it as typical seaside holiday resort when I ventured back there for a couple of days.
The town in on the North Yorkshire coast quite close to Whitby and Bridlington. There are plenty of shops and an indoor market called Brunswick Market which is a good place to browse if it rains. (Which, unfortunately, it did for most of the time we were there.)
Up at the northern part of the beach is The Sea Life Centre and there are various arcades and an outdoor swimming pool. The miniature railway will take you right along the beach.
The beach is clean and safe which makes it a great place for the kids to let off a bit off steam as long as it isn't too windy!
Peasholm Park is a pleasant place to visit and you can enjoy the motor boats and pedalos. This is a perfect place for a picnic on a fine day.
Just outside Scarborough at Staintondale is the thing that really drew us to Scarborough. This where Wellington Lodge, the llama trekking centre is situated. We had a fabulous day trekking along the shore on llamas. Everything was provided including a packed lunch. A great way to spend a day and we were fortunate because we went on the only fine day out the four we were there.
Scarborough is a great place for small children, but if you have older children you need a car to take them to different places if you stay here more than a few days.
Personally I would prefer to go for a weekend and incorporate llama trekking into it.
Ask me about Scarborough and I'll say 'Llama Trekking'.
Summary: Good place for kids
