Advantages: Traditional Majorcan Towns, beautiful mountain range isolates the resort.
Disadvantages: Very quiet, no entertainment, no beach.
The town of Soller in actually deep in the mountain range of Sierra De Tramuntana - which is approx 1445m above sea levels (the highest mountain in Majorca / Mallorca).
The resort stretches out over a 44km area - and reaches the west coast of the island too.
Its approx 35k from the airport - it used to take a few hours to get to the resort after driving around winding little roads to get around the mountain that isolates the resort - however since the motorway & 'Tunel de Soller' opened - its cut the tranfers time to approx 45 mins.
The actual resort of Puerto de Soller is an almost perfect horse shoe bay
Approx 3km inland is the actual town of Soller - and the main road that links the town and resort area - is shared with coaches and trams.
The tramway is the only working tram on the island and is known as the 'ORANGE EXPRESS'. It got its name because the route from the old town to the harbour went through orange groves.
The main town is very small with hardly any facilties - so it really isnt ideal for anyone taking children to this resort. The councils are discussing making an artificial beach with a promenade to make a more tourist friendly resort
The resort is more popular with middle aged groups wanting a eral majorcan feel holiday. For those that are interested in walking and scenery, and for those that would use the resort as a base to explore the mountains.
Also nearby are two other pretty majorcan villages - Fornalutx and Biniaraix which are very traditional in the majorcan way of life, and they still look as though they have missed the past 100 years or so. This is a fascinating day out, to see what Majorca looked like before tourists started coming to the island.
There is not much else to do in Soller, other than walk and enjoy the scenery. There is the odd restaurant and bar - but nothing with entertainment and karoke.
If your wanting a beach, fun filled action packed holiday - this is not the place for you!
If I think of anything else about Soller, I will be sure to add it to my review....
Summary: A traditional Majorcan town that is perfect for those wanting to walk and enjoy the scenery
