Car blessings are a big thing in Copacabana, just east of the Peru-Bolivia border - I m told they re the chosen alternative of the many drivers who can t afford insurance, opting for the divine form instead. Anywhere else I might assume this is a joke, but in Bolivia it s all too plausible. This may not be the most famous Copacabana in South America, but much like its better-known namesake in Brazil, it takes in a celebrated, mesmerising view. Otavalo ... is a beautiful small town in the Andean highlands of Ecuador, most famous for the magnificent indigenous market held every Saturday (in La plaza de ponchos)... This is honestly one of the best markets for artisan crafts you will find in South America. *Things to see and do* Being situated in the mountains there s some good hiking or trekking in the area, on foot or on horseback but the thing that attracts tourists is undoubtedly the market.... it s huge! In this market you can find some of the best textiles in the continent - I never found such beautiful wall hangings anywhere else, and the variety is incredible meaning you will be wanting to save plenty of spac... Pucon ... you with the necessary equipment, although it s advisable to at least own your own ski jacket because they don t tend to have a large variety of different sizes available, and walking against the wind in an oversized coat will be a nightmare. The volcano climb is all very well organised compared with how things are usually done in South America, they even provided us with little tubes of sunscreen.... the regulations are great safety wise.... but a pain if your climb is repeatedly cancelled due to the tiniest spattering of rain which is what happened to me, so be prepared to have to wait around.
