It's better than carrying around a load of kip that you can't exvhange anywhere thus rendering it useless! Stung Treng has some okay budget guesthouses by the river but a few will try to sell you bus tickets for very high and unfair prices, so be careful! Stung Treng is little more than a border region and Stung Treng town the provincial capital borders Laos and you will most likely end up here if the border crossing is closed into Laos. Stung Treng is one of the few places outside of Lao where you can exchange any Lao Kip that you have left over.
