Disadvantages: A bit pricey and probably best for a short stay rather than a fortnight

In my opinion this is one of the best places in Sicily to visit. The town is set on a hill so you have fantastic views over the beautiful blue bays down by the sea and breathtaking views up over Mount Etna. When we were there Mount Etna was having a bit of a rumble so there was glowing red larva spilling out of the top of the volcano (although we were reassured there was nothing to worry about) and it being spring on one chilly day there was also a snowfall on the top of the volcano too. Snow, lava and blue sea and sunshine all in one view is quite something.

The actual town is very pretty with lanes full of shops, bars and restaurants.

There is also an ancient ampetheatre which is absolutely massive and again has completely stunning views down on to the sea below. This view featured a little while back in an advert and is really not something you would ever forget once seen in real life.

We were there for a long weekend and that probably is enough time to see the sites including a trip up Etna, although for safety reasons you can only go part way up. As it was rumbling part way was absolutely fine with us!

Summary: A place I would highly recommend
