Taupo

Taupo was our penultimate stop in New Zealand, and although we wanted so much to carry on it was a good one to finish with. The town is lovely, it has lots of lovely little shops, lots of nice bars and it had a big supermarket that didn't take too long to walk to; which was very good for us backpackers. The hostel, Base Taupo, was awesome, full of backpackers and the rooms were gorgeous, not the usual backpacker standard. Taupo is the cheapest place in New Zealand to go skydiving, for the basic skydive it costs just £90, which is so good. The company, skydive Taupo, were really nice and helpful. I have been to Taupo twice once in 2005 and again in 2007. Taupo lake is one of the biggest of New Zealands many lakes covering 60, 000 ha. Once there one must take a quick swim but only if you visit in the summer, fishing is a big sport around the lake so hire a fishing rod and catch yourslef some dinner. If one is the dare-devil type then why not go sky diving over the amazing lake, free fall for 60 seconds and take in all the surrounding views of all the volcanoes and mountains, and not forgetting the enormous lake.
