Advantages: tranquil stunning
Disadvantages: steps down to it - worth it though
Otarawairere Bay is on North Island in the Bay Of Plenty.
It is between Whakatane and Ohope and is one of those secret beaches that all the locals go to but unless youre in the know you wouldnt know it was there or how to get there.
It can be reached on foot from Whakatane, Ohope or Westend and takes around 20 minutes or so depending on your capabilities.
It is accessible via the Nga Tapuwae o Toi Walking track too which is a beautifully scenic walk that encompasses all that makes Whakatane so absolutely appealing, the views, the birds, the wildlife and the natural forest walks.
The beach itself comes into view and it can not fail to amaze you, it is absolutely stunning and beatiful, an unspoilt gleaming white sand beach...thats deserted! We went a few different times during our stay in Whakatane with relatives and we were always the only ones on it.
The forest stops where the beach begins and we also spent hours wandering through the forest, it is incredibly peaceful.
This is one of my favourite places in the world and should be classed as one of the worlds best beaches...but maybe that would spoil its uniqueness and tranquility.
