A beautiful Norwegian city - well worth visiting. (Trondheim)

Advantages: Tourist sites within walking distance, beautiful scenery

Disadvantages: Expensive like all of Norway

We flew into Trondheim airport for the start of our 2 week holiday touring Norway. We were pleasantly greeted by many english speaking locals only too happy to help with directions into the mian city centre. The scenery was beautiful as we travelled on the bus in to the centre where we had booked a hotel which was close to many of the main tourist sites. Our first trip was on a little ferry to Munkholmen island where the locals were taking advantage of the 30c heat and sunbathing on a makeshift beach. We on the other hand got a wonderful english spoken tour of the history of the island. A visit to Nidaros cathedral is also well worth it and climbling to main stairs to the top is one for the fit and non claustraphobic. We much preffered this city to bergen, less busy but well laid out with everything very close at hand and walkable to . Buying fresh fruit from the fruit market in the main square is also a bonus whilst people watching in the early morning sun. As with everything in Norway however prices are very high, but some reasonable eating places can be found if you take time to explore and use local guide books.
