These are almost villages in themselves, with an array of shops selling everything from clothes to household goods. Visit in early September for the real bargains, when they sell off the summer stock before autumn. Within half an hour's travelling distance of Troyes is the Lac d'Orient, a lakeside resort which is favoured by the French as a tourist destination.
