Varese (Italy)Newest Review: ... is a very pleasant city to visit, it is referred to as the Garden City because of the many green areas and large villas and has compact centre which can be easily explored in half a day on foot. The main pedestrian area is the one around the San Vittore church. Corso Matteotti is the cobbled street with all the most expensive shops and the cafeterias. For the passing tourist Varese does not offer much attractions once you have visited the centre, unless you decide to explore his province. Varese is a city of around 90,000 people in the North of Italy. It is situated 50 kilometres north of Milan and only 12-15 from the border with Switzerland. The region is hilly, the hills get lower the more you go towards Milan, while they become mountains if you go North. Varese used to be one of the richest cities in Italy because of the textile industries and the micro industries in its province, it still remains a well of part of Italy, but it lost a bit of the old splendour.
