Victoria station, in its current form, has grown from the amalgamation of two stations. The Kent side provides services to Medway towns and the Kent coast. The remainder serves routes to Sussex. Over 115 million people pass through the station each year.

      Victoria Station

Victoria Station is one of the major London stations & is located in the South of the City Centre. You can catch trains by Southern & South Eastern train companies, with South Eastern running services on the East side of the station to Medway & Kent areas and Southern have services through Sussex and the South Coast. The Gatwick Express which used to be ran by Virgin, also runs from here which is now ran by Southern, with express services to/from Gatwick Airport (which some now carrying onto/from Brighton). The station itself is large, bright & airy with plenty of floor space & 2 main entrances. The station is very easilly accessable via the tube (London Underground) with the station just below the main concourse, with the Victoria, Circle & District lines all serving Victoria. You can also catch many London Buses to the station from across London. If your catching a coach, London's Victoria Coach Station is just round the corner from the main station, with just a 3 - 5 minute walk. Theres a large ticket area, with fast ticket machines and a large set of ticket windows/desks to get help & assistance or buy tickets for either the same day or in advance. Theres also plenty of food and drink facilities with all the major usual ones you see at stations having homes at Victoria including Millies Cookies, WHSmiths, Boots, Upper Crust, Burger King & Costa Coffee. You'll find cash machines in the centre area near the very large clear to read departure boards near platform 13/14. Ticket barriers are installed at all platforms to restrict access & prevent fraud & anti-social behaviour. You'll find cleanish toilets, including disabled & baby changing facilities located on the main concourse & also upstairs above platforms 17-20 where you'll find a small shopping centre which has a very good sweetie place, but be careful you don't go too mad and buy too many like I did last time I went. Overall I think Victoria is a very good station.

      Disadvantages

Big, busy and a major point of arrival from both Europe and other major inland cities. It has a notorious reputation for attracting predatory petty criminals, and particularly for people looking to recruit teenage runaways. It does have shops, but when you're catching a late train, don't expect any of them to be open. The Burger King is legendary for the utter shabbiness of its service - try it out. It must be a punishment unit for bad BK employees, they all seem to think they are serving a sentence, but then I guess so would I if I worked there. Coach and tube are just on the doorstep, and the tube links to the Victoria, Circle and District lines, which is not too bad. The Victoria line is quick, as well, it takes about 20 minutes to Kings Cross.

I've been to London several times and had always arrived at Victoria Train Station. Victoria Train Station is a very old building, a bit dirty and dark and is massive. Victoria Bus Station is at one side of the building and Victoria Tube Station is just underneath the train station. There are trains arrive right at the centre of the building. If you're waiting for train and have some time to kill, there are shops and restaurants around, such as WHSmith, MacDonald's and coffee bars. Tourist information centre is at one corner of the station, and a bureau de change is in the information centre. There are also plenty of pigeons in the station. So if you're really looking for something to do while waiting for your train, feed the pigeons is probably a good idea. That's what I normally do :)
