A fantastic short break- see it before it is spoilt! (Wroclaw)

I have just returned from a short break to Wroclaw in Poland and I have had a fantastic time.

Wroclaw is a lovely city. I have heard that it is like Kracow was before it became a tourist attraction and I can well believe that. It is totally unspoilt by tourists and gives you a real chance to see an up and coming Polish city without all the tourist gimmicks and enflated prices. It reminded me a lot of Prague with it's elaborate buildings and Gothic churches.

The town square is beautiful. Lovely brightly decorated buildings, all painted in an array of colours. The town hall is spectaular, as are the churches. There are 3 tourist information points on the square which are very helpful and you can take your pick from restaurants and bars. All the places I went to served fantastic authentic Polish food which was delicious.

Just outside the main square you can walk along the river and visit the tranquil Cathedral Island which is absolutely beautiful. Huge cathedrals line the island which is accessible from many quaint little bridges. A spectacular sight, especially at night when the cathedrals are lit up.

Transport is excellent with buses and trams running around the city and out. Taxis are also everywhere but you have to be careful not to be ripped off.

Everything is so cheap too. I spent £130 for four days and four nights including all meals, hotel and sightseeing.

The city is having a lot of work done to make it more tourist friendly and I think it will be even more beautiful as at the moment there are areas surrounding the town centre that are shabby and grotty. That said, that is the way people live and I don't think this should be hidden to suit tourists. I suggest seeing Wroclaw now before it becomes a tourist destination and I garentee it will.
