Advantages: All inclusive plan, weather, great room

Disadvantages: Not enough time, meals can get montonous

My partner and I recently travelled to Jamaica-Montego Bay. Our accomodation was allocation on arrival, so we were holding our breaths when told where we were staying.

B/c I had done so much research on the internet before hand I practicaly knew every resort in Montego Bay inside and out, so when we were told Wyndham we couldnt belive our luck. It was a beautiful resort and we did the all-inclusive plan which we did enjoy.

I can see however how it could prove to be monotonous to some if staying longer than a week. Our room was on the 7th floor and had a great view from the verandah. We sat on the beach most days and noticed alot of people preferred the pool area. Some might not like the beach it was good enough for us, although when entering the water there were often rocks that you had to contend with, the water was not the clearest in shore but take a canoe out and you we saw some brilliant coloured water.

There is a water park for the little ones and the little at heart, to tell you the truth there were more adults on it than kids. The lazy river and water slides are great fun for all.

The night time entertainment is average, not a resort for the party people, although there is a bus that takes you into Margaritaville and other night spots.

We did the Dunn's River Falls trip and had a fantastic time, we bought the video of us all climbing it for $30US dollars. We also did the Martha Brae River Rafting trip which is about $48 US, you go down the river on a 40 foot bamboo raft, is very peaceful untill the raft captain tries to sell you his crafts, but you have to understand this is how they make a living.

We did a shopping trip into Montego Bay and other various craft markets. Alot of the craft stalls sell very similar crafts so basically once you have seen one stall you have seen them all !!

The weather was beautiful while we were there (18th March-25th March 2001)although it did rain of a night ti
me but this was needed and cooled everthing down.

The staff at the resort were on average friendly although you do get your sullen ones who have had a long day, there is no hurry whatso ever in Jamaica so if you have a complaint do it in a nice way you are likely to get it fixed quicker than going off your head at them.

The resort offers non motorized water sports including, canoeing, wind surfing, catamaran, snorkelling does have a fee, you can also do skuba courses and there is a banana boat and para sail boat that come into the beach each day and these do cost but look like alot of fun !!

My partner played 2 games of golf and had a good time, said the greens could have been a little better eg were abit sandy but he had a good time and this too costs, and you get a caddy included in the price to come around with you the cost I cant quite remember maybe in total for club hire and caddy etc it was a total of $60 US which compared to the Half Moon which was about £100 something (I think) is pretty good.

There was a buffet each night that did alter slightly, there is also an Italian restaruant and the Ambroisa but you need to make reservations for these early (a few days before you want to eat there). There is the Java Cafe where they serve nice lunches and some other eating areas near the pool and the water park. The drinks are generous and the Pina Colada's are wonderful. There is an open air bar off from the lobby that is nice to sit around of a night time and meet others.

Overall we had a wonderful stress free time here. We definatly thought that we got alot more than we paid for on the all inclusive and were very pleased. Over all we rated this resort and our holiday 8 out of 10.
Make sure you have US$26 spare for departure tax, sometimes they dont tell you this till your at the airport and out of cash ??

Also we were told that taking travellers cheques was a no no as even the hotels find it hard to c
ash them, I would not normally have travelled with so much cash but we were pleased we didnt take T/C in the end as we heard others complaining that they did not cash them, also its widely recommended to take small bills such as $1, $5, and $10 as they find it hard to make change.
Overall a great holiday.

No, you can write as much as you like, have no fear of running out of space, in fact longer ops are positively encouraged round here these days. You don't have to wait until your next op either, you can update your opinion and add some line breaks in. I'll look forward to reading your next op in either event.
