Advantages: Water Park on site

Disadvantages: Not wheelchair accessible, Staff not too friendly

My husband and I recently visited this hotel on a holiday booked through Virgin Holidays in the UK. Virgin were well aware of the fact that I am a wheelchair user, and said that the property was suitable for us.

All was going well, check in was reasonably swift, lifts were working, get to the room, open the room door, great, so far so good.

Into the room; and whilst basic, was what I would call a typical 3* hotel room. However, this is were the problem started. The wheelchair would not fit through the bathroom door; and the toilet and bath was quite some distance from the door.

When we went to reception to see why we hadn't been put in an adapted room, we were told that Virgin Holidays hadn't made them aware that my wife was a wheelchair user, and they didn't realise this (you would have thought that a person sitting in a wheelchair in front
of you when checking in might have been a clue!). Anyway, they only have 1 disabled adapted room. It has been adapted by removing the door from the bathroom. However, even if the door had been removed, the entry would still have been too narrow to fit a wheelchair through.

Other issues to steer clear if you're a wheelchair user:

1) The hotel shops, which are quite varied, are up about 15 steps; there is no ramp or lift.
2) The way to get down to the pool is to take the lift to the basement, exit to a raised level, then down a VERY steep ramp. The ramp is far too steep to be taken forwards, and can not be negotiated backwards without some stopping the wheelchair from tipping over.
3) The indoor bar (The Cricket Club), which is where most of the evening entertainment is held, is accessible only by going up a couple of stairs, this takes you to the bar level, to get to the main seating area, you then have to go down about 5 stairs.

The Water Park was great. It had a lazy river to float around on your rubber ring, and a nice whirlpool area. <
br>But come 6.00pm without any notice they turn off the lazy river and whirlpool. Not nice if you are only halfway round the lazy river at the time.

The one saving grace of the hotel was the Italian restaurant, which is included within the All-Inclusive package.
Our waiter (John Lewis) had us in stitches with his "Yeah Mon" and not forgetting the "Moo Juice" to go with our cup of tea!

Very bad on Virgins side, I hope you made a complaint to them.
