Advantages: Kalamaki is a quiet, peaceful resort with a collection of bars and restaurants
Disadvantages: THE AIRPORT
Hotel Denny's Inn, located in the tranquil resort of Kalamaki, Zakynthos, is a hotel meant for families and tourists of all types.
This welcoming hotel is host to a number of facilities and activities, such as the bar, two swimming pools (one regular and one childrens'), a games room compromising of arcade games such as Tekken 4 and Crazy Taxi, and a pool table. A weekly contest called 'Killer Pool' is held in the games room for pool entusiasts over the age of ten, and is available for a small fee. The prize is of the 'winner keeps all' category. The arcade games are also available for a small fee. There is a television in the main lounge that airs different movies every day at set times.
There are sofas and chairs set around the area for comfort. Often, important football (soccer) games are shown. There are a variety of activities run by the hotel, such as a Greek Night (for a cost) including food and traditional dances (very fun for all!), a Karaoke Night by the 'Karaoke King' each Saturday, sure to get you in the mood for a good sing-song!! There is also a bingo night and an evening to view a slideshow and hear a speech on the beautiful Caretta turtles that are the wildlife of the area. In addition a quiz night is run, testing your knowledge on a variety of topics!
As for the location of the hotel, it is situated in the quiet resort of Kalamaki, near to long luxurious beaches, miles of sand stretching as far as the eye can see and beautiful clear waters welcoming visitors to take a dip.
There is the option of hiring deck chairs and sun umbrellas, but some areas of the beach are prohibited due to the conservation of the loggerheaded Caretta turtle that chooses this resort as a nesting area. There are a couple of small islands that can be seen from the beach, one known as 'Turtle Island', not only due to this being the island where the turtles are most commonly found, but also because of its distinctive turtle-like shape.
The hotel is also located within a couple of minutes' walking distance of local shops, mini marts and restaurants. The restaurants are of a high quality and usually serve both traditional and more modern dishes.
Anyway, back to the hotel! This hotel is popular and suited for all types of visitors, but the tranquil atmosphere may not cater for those looking for a more 'party' like atmosphere. However, this is not a problem as the hotel is near to the main town of the southern region of the island, Laganas, and there is a taxi service available to be arranged by the reception staff.
There is a large number of rooms in the hotel, as there has recently been a construction that developed unused land into more space for rooms. There can be up to four beds in a room, depending on which company you choose to fly with, but this fourth bed is usually a a 'chair bed'. This bed is slightly shorter than the average bed, but is useful if there are smaller children in your party. There is a daily maid service and there is also the option to hire a refrigerator and/ or air conditioning.
The food in the hotel is of high standards, and is available from the poolside cafe between the hours of around 10am and 7pm. There is a wide range of snacks and meals available from the menu, and the service is spectacular. In the mornings there is the option of a complimentary traditional Greek breakfast enjoyed by many, but if this is not your ideal start to the day, then as aforementioned you can purchase a different meal from the poolside bar from the aforementioned time of around 10am.
As for the staff, what is there to say?? They are very friendly and welcoming and are present at all times to make your stay enjoyable. The staff make sure that youe enjoy your time on the island and in the area.
You can hire a safe to keep personal belongings in to help you stay feeling secure.
The bar is of very high quality and servs a variety of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic into the early hours of the morning!
On the whole, if a family run and orientated hotel in a quiet resort close to restaurants, shops and the beach is for you, then this resort will definitely be well suited!!
And then the negative: the airport. My family and I spent over 18 hours waiting in that airport. Yes, EIGHTEEN. And without food other than crisps and no drink other than overpriced water. The staff were inattentive and rather rude. That was a one-off NIGHTMARE trip though and I would still highly recommend it to anyone!!
Summary: Excellent family run and orientated hotel
