MagdaDH Snowdon: ... is the highest mountain in Britain outside the Scottish Highlands. At 3560ft (1,085m) it s not exactly an Alpine peak - after all you can take a TRAIN up to the top - but it is, surprisingly and wonderfully, a beautiful one, with a jagged, desolate beauty belied by it s relatively low height. It combines dramatic mountain scenery with lovely views to the coast and beyond (in the right weather, obviously). The...

Clacton-on-Sea in General Clacton-on-Sea in General
Destination National / Tendring Peninsula, Essex. Clacton-on-Sea is a seaside resort that used to attract many tourists in the '60s and '70s, but which like other English resorts has been in decline since foreign holidays became fashionable in '70s and '80s making it more of a retirement hotspot these days.

MagdaDH Porthmadog (North Wales)
... is a nice little town, with many places to eat or have a coffee and very helpful people at the tourist information office. It is beautifully located on the Glaslyn estuary, and has a neat small harbour as well as some wonderful views towards the mountains. What is excels as, though, is a base to explore the surrounding arreas, both the Llyn peninsula and the Snowdonia - the best of North Wales is at your doorstep here. The major attraction in town itself is the Ffestiniog Railway. Officially known as Rheilffordd Ffestiniog Railway, and now a tourist attraction run by steam train enthusiasts, it was originally built as a gravity and horse drawn line to c...

MagdaDH Abersoch in general
... seven miles on from Pwllheli along the North Welsh Llyn peninsula is originally a fishing village but have now turned into a fairly high-faultin beach resort. I have not been to Abersoch in the low season, but even in June many of the houses seemed locked up, and I suspect from the late autumn to early spring it would feel like a ghost town. In the summer it caters to a large number of visitors with its B&Bs, caravan parks and a mix of decent (but not particularly cheap) eateries. Abersoch has an air of what can be described as self-consciously cool relaxation: tanned young men in flip-flops and low-sitting, long shorts, families unloading what seems ...

clairedooyoo Bath (Somerset)
... have just come back from a weekend away in Bath and what a lovely weekend it was. As soon as we arrived in the city we were blown away by how beautiful it was with the little streets and straight buildings. We had actually hired a mini bus so found a long stay car park on Charlotte street (this only cost £18 from Fri - Sun). There are many nice hotels but money saving matters we chose to go in a hostel, £17 a night for a 16 bed dorm. We visited Bath on one of the busiest weekend as the Christmas market was on. Although this looked really pretty we chose not to look round it as it was too busy to even get to the stalls. The nice thing about Bath is that it is so nice ...
