There is a primary school but older children travel to high school in nearby Cupar (9 miles). Less shops than there once was but most things you would need are here - large grocers/mini supermarket, newsagents, chemist, tea room, petrol station, two pubs and even a charity shop! There is also a bank although it's only machines most of the time now but there is a Police Station. Auchtermuchty is a small town in the Howe of Fife. Really not much more than a village but it was granted the status of a ''Royal Burgh'' the 16th century so is officially a town! The town therefore is very old and has a reasonably rich history. Until recently, Auchtermuchty was a thriving town with many small industries however many of these businesses closed their doors in the 80's and 90's so 'Muchty has less business now with most residents commuting to larger towns and cities nearby for work.
