Advantages: Lovely people, not to busy

Disadvantages: Not an amazing shopping experience

I have lived and grown up in North Devon all of my life.

Barnstaple is my nearest, "proper town." I went to college here, and I want to let you know about it, from a sort of insiders perspective.

I doubt you would come to Barnstaple, without good reason, but if you do however, find yourself in North Devon, then it's probably a good place to visit.

As far as shopping goes, it's nothing special. It has a main high street, with most of the well known names that you would expect any fair sized town to have. For example, places like; M and S, Debenhams, BHS, New look, Top Shop etc...

I personally feel that some of the more individual shops are nicer. Places like Youings are really individual, and you can get almost anything you like in there!

Another good place to visit, is the Pannier market. This is an indoor market, with an array of stalls, which sell anything you could imagine! Also, if shopping is not your thing, then the leisure centre, across the river is a great place to spend some time, with it's swimming pool, Gym, cafe's etc...

If you want to get out and explore, then try to get to the centrally located bus station. From here, you can go all over North devon, to some wonderful small places. You can also get all the way down to Tavistock, which is a long way down in South Devon, but is an absolutely beautiful place to visit!

Barnstaple, is one of these places where, on the face of it, it doesn't seem too special, but if you get around and explore, it is the sort of place that you will soon feel at home in.

Summary: The sort of Place that will stay with you, soon after you've left.
