Barrow-in-Furness in GeneralNewest Review: ... well as Tesco, other supermarkets include Asda, Morrisons and 6 branches of the Co-op. *Pubs and Clubs* Barrow has the same variety of pubs as the majority of towns in the country. There are the usual drinkers pubs, and the food lovers pubs, plus one pub with a 'Fuzzy Ed's' attached for children to play. Along Cornwallis Street (also known as The Gaza Strip) are Barrow's nightclubs. There are 6 clubs which all open until the early hours of the morning. In addition to these clubs there is also the Princess Selandia, a floating nightclub and restaurant. *Food* There are cafes and restaurants a plenty in Barrow. There are Ch... more |

Barrow in Furness, as soon as I say those words 99 times out of 100 the reply will be 'Where's that?'. Except when you're speak to people from Barrow that is. I thought I'd write this little guide in case anyone was coming to the area. ~Where is it?~ Barrow in Furness (or Barra as it's known) is in South Cumbria within the Furness peninsula. Still no idea? Well the easiest way to describe it is, just south of the Lake District or not too far north of Blackpool. The A590 takes you from the M6 and straight to Barrow and is nicknamed the world's largest cul-de-sac, because it comes into Barrow then the only thing to do is turn around ... Barrow in Furness is on the Furness peninsula and is not a very big town at all but it offers services, retail outlets and facilities needed by local people. It has a few large supermarkets such as Asda and Tesco, Barrow is also home to large companies and factory branches such as Kimberley Clarkes and BAE systems. It has a Hospital (Furness General Hospital) and other health services needed by local people. I am writing this opinion, about my home town Barrow In Furness, because I have seen a few people’s opinions on their hometowns and I thought it was a great idea for an opinion. I moves to Barrow, when I was seven years old, I moved here with my mother, brother and sister, so we could be close to my grand parents as they were both getting on a bit and they didn’t have any family near them. I must say, when we first arrived there wasn’t much hear, well not that I could remember anyway It has all changed so much, and so many things and places have bee added to create a much nicer town. Barrow In Furness is the historic maritime ... Read the complete review

Barrow in Furness is on the doorstep of the Lake District and as a town itself it has had quite a face lift over the last ten years. One of the treasured landmarks of this town is the Furness Abbey Ruins; The English Heritage centre records the fascinating history of the monks from the abbey going back to 1127. The Custodian’s cottage nearby has been restored recently and is a beautiful building. The monks also built Dalton Castle as a prison and courthouse, it is now an exhibition centre for the life and work of George Romney, who is buried at Dalton Church. More history is found on Piel Island you can take a ferry across for a few ... Read the complete review
