It seems to be a little behind times with the shops in the town centre, but its starting to get there with shops being renovated and replaced quite often. Barrow is a nice town, You feel safe walking around the town centre and it offers enough shops for a decent day out shopping and browsing. Alot of people visit Barrow in Furness who live in the local surroundings, they come from Ulverston, Kendal, Newby ... more

I am writing this opinion, about my home town Barrow In Furness, because I have seen a few people’s opinions on their hometowns and I thought it was a great idea for an opinion. It is true there used to be nothing to do in Barrow but now they have Portland Walk a shopping area with Debenhams Ottakars books Electronic Boutique Andys records Boots Littlewoods WH Smiths the only problem is it is uncovered and it does occasionly rain in Barrow! Hollywood Park is where you find the Appollo cinema Canons healthclub the looks quite good actually bingo place and all the usual fast food places for burgers pizzas chicken. Near by is Channelside haven a lovely walk way by the channel and the Dock museum a very striking looking building and a very interesting place with not only Barrows story but local art exhibitions and lots of shipbuilding history there .  Read the complete review

Barrow in Furness is on the doorstep of the Lake District and as a town itself it has had quite a face lift over the last ten years. One of the treasured landmarks of this town is the Furness Abbey Ruins; The English Heritage centre records the fascinating history of the monks from the abbey going back to 1127. The Custodian’s cottage nearby has been restored recently and is a beautiful building. The monks also built Dalton Castle as a prison and courthouse, it is now an exhibition centre for the life and work of George Romney, who is buried at Dalton Church. More history is found on Piel Island you can take a ferry across for a few ...  Read the complete review
