Advantages: Nightlife and lots to do
Disadvantages: Touts, rundown areas
I have heard some terrible reviews of Blackpool so was a little apprehensive about going there for an over night stay.
I had a fun time but I can see why there are some bad reviews
Accommodation
So many B & B's some of which look dirty and really dodgy as do some of the hotels! But because of the sheer number of places to stay competition is fierce so you are looking at getting a room in a B & B for around £20 or a hotel like we did for £60 (four star) .
Beach
If the weather isn't good (which is for a large amount of the year) its very chilly so wrap up warm. Also out of season the beach is not kept very clean so there is a lot of little as with the prom.
Attractions
Pleasure Beach is the main attraction. Its £30 per adult for an all day wrist band. Its good value for money as there are a lot of rides... but on the day we went a number of rides went out of order for repair!!! So because this was not clearly stated on arrival I was very disappointed.
You also have the Blackpool Tower, Sandcastles Water park and the many amusement arcades!!!
One thing to note and avoid DO NOT BUY FAKE WRISTBANDS from the touts on the seafront. On approach to the Pleasure beach you will be approached by a tout who will try and sell you a "genuine discount £10 wrist" band and tell you "You're a mug to pay full price £30 at the park gates". If you buy one of these you will not get in to the theme parkas its obvious they are fakes and you will not get a refund off the tout!
Nightlife
The nightlife is great and in my opinion the best thing about Blackpool. Lots of clubs, good drinks offers and a wide choice of pubs to go to before clubbing
A place to experience, as it's a traditional UK seaside town but not somewhere you will be likely to return to in a hurry!
Summary: Traditional UK seaside town just your not likely to want to return year after year
