Advantages: Great seaside resort
Disadvantages: Being taken over a bit by stag and hen do's
When I was younger every year my parents would take me and my brother to Blackpool on holiday, and now I have children my parents now take them on short breaks to Blackpool. I don't know why my parents love Blackpool so much but I have been that many times I am a bit sick of it. I would go again for a daytrip or maybe a weekend but I wouldn't dream of going there on holiday.
Blackpool is a seaside resort in Lancashire and is about 90 miles from where I live, I'm sure most people will of heard of Blackpool before. There are two main things associated with Blackpool, one is the tower, Blackpool tower always used to remind me of a smaller version of eiffel tower when I was a child. You can go up the tower and it is quite high and scary at the top. The other thing I associate with Blackpool is the Pleasure Beach.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach is a theme park full with rollercoasters and scary rides. Up until recently you could walk around the park without paying and buy tokens just for the rides you wanted to go on, but now it is the same as other theme parks and you have to pay on entry for unlimited rides. The Pepsi Max has got to be the biggest rollercoaster there and I have not been brave enough to go on, I did manage the Playstation though.
The Golden Mile is what the seafront at Blackpool is refered to, as it is supposed to be a mile from one end to the other. On the Golden Mile there are the usual stalls, amusements and places to eat.
There are three piers at Blackpool, one at the north, one at the south and one in the middle. The middle pier is the best as it is full of rides and amusements.
Just next to the Pleasure Beach there is a big waterworld called the Sandcastle, this is a really fun waterworld with lots of shutes and slides. It is however expensive so you would need to spend the day there to get value for money.
The beach at Blackpool is quite nice and easily accessible, you can hire deckchairs and have donkey rides like any seaside resort.
In the Autumn there is the Blackpool Illuminations which run from October to November. In all the times I have been I have never seen the illuminations, I would like to though.
The thing I would probably criticise Blackpool for is that it is turning into a bit of a party resort rather than a family resort. It is a popular place for stag and hen parties and therefore not the place you want to be taking children, as come night time there are drunks everywhere.
I do love Blackpool and have fond memories of being there, when it comes to seaside resorts and things to do Blackpool is up there with the best. However when you have been somewhere many many times it does lose its appeal and the want to visit other places is stronger.
Blackpool is great place to visit though, with lots of fun things to see and do.
Summary: Blackpool is the place I associate with my childhood
