The table for nine, six adults and two children, in the George Hotel, South Street in Bridport, had been booked several days ahead. On the afternoon of our arranged meal, a phone call from one of the staff informed me that the cook had got a fishbone in her fingernail and was in Accident and Emergency with an infected hand. Our anticipated evening meal was cancelled. This was all the more disappointing as five of us, including the two children, had just had a disastrous lunchtime eating out experience in Bridport, and we were relying on the good food and atmosphere of our evening dinner date to compensate for an almost mind boggling lunch.
