Advantages: unique and interesting shopping, the sea, the fish and chips!
Disadvantages: can be busy and the beach is not great if you want to really sit out or go in the sea, especially with kids.
I *love* Brighton, really, it's one of those places which apparently has everything, either in the town or within a short drive.
Most people probably associate Brighton with the seaside, but the shopping is excellent too, especially if, like me, you love things that are a bit different from what you will find in your average high street.
Brighton has a very "easy" culture...lots of students and being a centre for the gay community probably help make it what it is - creative and unique.
Get into the lanes to really poke around and see what bargains and things you've never even *seen* before you manage to come up with....allow yourself loads of time just to wander and get yourself a coffee, then grab some fish and chips later on and head for the beach.
The beach is stony, but the sea is magical and never fails to inspire me. If you want to actually sit on the beach "properly" , head down the coast a little way to Hove where it's less overrun (still stony though!)
Brighton, unlike most cities I've visited, has its main station withing easy walking distance of the town and of interesting shops - a definite plus point for a lot of travellers.
If you are here with a car and for a couple of days, make sure you get out into the Sussex countryside. I think it's the most beautiful countryside in England and with loads of picturesque little towns ans villages withing easy reach of Brighton itself.
