Bundoran is a small seaside resort town in the North West of Ireland. This town lies in County Donegal as has been a popular spot with tourists for many years. The town has a population of around one thousand eight hundred people but during the summer months it gets a lot busier as people come to the area to visit. There is some spectacular coastline in this area and some beautiful scenery inland and for these reason people have been coming back to Bundoran year after year for many years.
If you are looking to stay in Bundoran then there are a few hotels to choose from. The Holyrood Hotel, The Grand Central Hotel and also The Great Northern Hotels are all very good and have good reputations for good rooms and a good quality of service. There are also quite a few smaller hotels and guesthouses in the town that all tend to be of a decent standard. Wherever you stay in the town you should get a very friendly welcome as the people in this area tend to be very welcoming. There are also a few holiday homes in the area, some of these are stand alone houses whereas some are grouped together and owned by the same companies. There is also quite a large caravan park to the South of the town which provides good cheap accommodation.
The town itself has plenty to see and do. There are lots of practical shops selling things like food and clothes. However there are lots of shops aimed at the tourism industry. Shops selling things for the beach, gifts and souvenirs and popular in the town, although these tend to be seasonal so if you visit in the winter they may be closed. There are a few arcades in the town which are good fun if you want to spend some of your spare change. Down on the seafront there is a mini fair ground but again this is not always open if you visit out of season. There are some really nice pubs in the town and in the summer these often have live music on in the evening and they always have a great atmosphere.
Bundoran itself does not have that great a beach. There is a small harbour here but nothing to get overly excited about. However if you either walk or drive round the headland to the North of the town there is a massive long sandy beach. This is a stunning place to visit and a great place to take the children. There are large sand dunes which shelter the beach and the Atlantic breakers roll in and often you see people out surfing the waves. This really is a fantastic beach and a great place to spend the day. There are also some nice walks up on the cliffs, the 'Fairy Steps' are an interesting rock formation that lies out on the headland, these are another place you really should give a visit.
Bundoran has long been seen as one of Ireland's premier beach resorts and it's easy to see why when you visit the town. There is plenty to do here and lots in the area that is also worth visiting. If you have never been to Bundoran then you really are missing out, next time you are in the area go and give it a visit.
