Advantages: Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff, plenty to do for all the family!
Disadvantages: A little over priced in places and I think the Lodges could be slightly cleaner
I visited Whinfell Forest midweek in late September for my nieces 10th Birthday. I went with my sister and my friend, my niece and my daughter aged 13. We arrived at about 4pm and we didn't have to queue for long to get into the park. Our Villa seemed clean (a few mud stains on carpet though), and spacious enough for us all, however on the last day we were checking everywhere to make sure we left it clean and tidy, and we noticed a stain on the wall that we hadn't noticed before in the living area. Under closer examination it appeared to be a inappropriate drawing with bad language underneath it that looked like it had been painted over but not enough because we could still make out what it was. We complained about it because it was not something that should be seen by children. A few weeks later we received a letter apologising for our find and £90 off our next Holiday, which was a nice gesture.
Back to the Holiday - we found that eating out was a bit expensive, but we did expect that as we have visited Whinfell before. Therefore we only ate out twice and cooked in the Villa most of the time. Activities were fun, we tried mini golf, the treasure trail were we caught glimpse of many a red squirrel along the way (a lot of peddling up hill though lol) and the pendulum swing, which my 13 year old daughter enjoyed. I myself recommend the Horse riding, I enjoyed the 1 hour 30 mins experienced trek, which was extremely fun and we even got a gallop on the way back. They also do shorter treks for the less experienced and are a friendly stable with plenty of horses to choose from. Swimming is also fun, the Sub Tropical Swimming Paradise is beautiful, warm and caters for all. I recommend the Canyon ride it was really fun as you can all ride it together, plus there was a mini rapid,a few flumes and slides for all ages and a wave machine which of course is all free so we spent a few hours a day there and loved it!
We also visited the arcades a few times, the kids seem to love playing on the machines and the bar is right next to the entrance so we could sit and have a drink and watch the kids enjoying themselves in the arcade.
There a a few shops there, we visited the toy shop which has a large choice of toys and gifts and they were nod badly priced either. The Sweet shop is joined on to the Toy shop and is full of all kinds of sweets, edible gifts and fudges for all ages. They also have like a natural shop, it sells things like candles. chimes and ornaments. The Parc Market is a little over priced, but it did come in handy for a few snacks and milk, bread etc..
Finally on the Thursday of our Holiday a few of our family came up for the day on a Day Pass to celebrate my nieces Birthday. We had a wonderful day, went Swimming, had a party tea in the Villa and to the bar at night and they really enjoyed it. I am unsure of the price of a day pass but I think they cost around £20 each, and you can stay till late at night.
I will definitely visit Whinfell Forest again, it was peaceful yet exciting and we all enjoyed ourselves very much, plus the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Summary: Overall a fun holiday enjoyed by all the family
