Chapel St Leonards (England)
Advantages: quiet, has everything needed, clean, locals are friendly, scenic
Disadvantages: being in britain cant guarentee the weather!!
Chapel St Leonards is a quite coastal resort on the lincolnshire coast. It is only about 15 minutes drive from the famouse Skegness (aka Costa del Skeg !) and Mablethorpe. It is easily reachable from anywhere in the uk and promises an ideal break for all.
Chapel St Leonards is a quiet and peaceful holiday place, bringing back the traditional holidays with the family in mind in opposition to over commercialisation and tacky shops. Not that there aren't a couple mind, it wouldnt be britain without them would it?!
There are two sections to chapel, and pretty much each area caters for the different types of holiday makers - cleverly done there! There is the village which I highly recommend.......
In the village there are a couple of arcades, a few shops, a village green which sometimes has open air concerts on for free, public toilets that are clean (yes you heard right, clean!!) and a couple of chippies. There is also access to the beach from here, all the shops are based around the green and the beach is marked clearly, along with a couple of car parks. Everything is in close walking distance of each other, including the beach.
The beach in the village is amazingly clean and well sheltered from the wind most of the time, it is usually quiet and the people that go there are locals and family holiday makers , real family folk who's kids just sit and dig in the sand!! There are areas of the beach that are covered in shells so a pair of flip flops is advisable if you have delicate feet!! The sea itself is clear because of the shingle along its beach, I was shocked to see that the sea was clear enough to see the bottom!! A rarity now days!! There is a shop and beachside pub on the edge of the beach should you desire anything.(In my case, a cuppa!!)
The town / outskirts
This is where all of your typical seaside things are, there is a street littered with arcades and caravan sites. It is completely different from the village with all the commercialisation being mainly kept in one area away from the village itself. There are several holiday resorts offering the usual - swimming pools, crazy golf, onsite bars etc. I havent visited any yet. I prefer the quiter side of it all, i am sure when the kids are a bit older though i will get forced to go there, until then the beach it is! Lol
In my opinion -
In my opinion you cant go wrong with a day at Chapel, its clean, has everything you need, and for those who have read Enid Blyton - Its a famous fives haven!! All that is missing is the ham sandwiches and ginger beer! It makes the family come together and is a real traditional family holiday place, lets hope they keep it that way. Saying that if the arcades and lights are your thing then its ideal aswell, it really does cater for all!
Summary: a traditional holiday place with all the things needed and the arcades etc on your doorstep!
