Advantages: Everything you need in one town

Disadvantages: Nothing

I am biased as I live in Chesterfield but you can find loads to do here. First thing most people think of when they visit Chesterfield is a trip up the Crooked Spire. Located centrally to all shopping facilities is St Marys and All Saints church. There are many stories about how the spire got crooked. The church do have trips up and the views I have been told are spectacular. just recently in Easter 2000 the new Vicar Lane shopping complex was built. This has brought back some wellknown stores to the town and some new ones. With it been new it is well worth a look around preferrably without the kids or your hubby. There is also The Pavements shopping centre indoors handy for rainy days!! The toilets are clean in the town and the baby facilities are excellent. Chesterfield town centre is kept clean and you can often see the old shire horse pulling the dustcart. The kids love it. The Thursday Flea market is excellent. The choice of things you can pick up is varied and cheap. Many friends come from Nottingham etc just to visit the market. We also have market days on Mondays and Fridays and Saturdays. There is also an indoor market which is open all week long.
There are lots of good things about the town centre and also very good out of town centres.
Chesterfield have a football club nicknamed The Spirites but I do not know much about football so that is all I can really tell you about it!!!
We also have a radio station Peak 107FM which is brilliant and gives you all the local information, whats going on in the town and they do play excellent range of music.
NIGHTLIFE!!! Well there is plenty of that, pubs, nightclubs galore. Most of the pubs have theme nights and ladies only nights. Sounds like great fun. Friday and Saturday night in town are packed. The pubs are very busy, loud and hot!!!!
FOOD!! My fave topic, There are plenty of decent restaurants in town to visit. In the locality of Chesterfield we have 3 McDonalds, 1 Burger King,1 Kentucky
Fried Chicken, 1 Pizza Hut and loads of individual restaurants. All serving good food at reasonable prices. I especially love Oriental House at West Bars. A family run business which is just excellent.
All in all Chesterfield is a brilliant town to have a look around. Next time you are visiting the gorgeous Peak District just on our doorstep plaese take a look around our town.
It may surprise you!!!!!!!

I understand that the spire will twist back to its intended shape as soon as two virgins get married in the church ! At least that's what I was told in the time I lived in the area (well, Matlock/Alfreton/Pinxton/ Stavely actually).

I liked Chesterfield a lot. The County cricket was also good there, particularly the John Player Sunday League. For a town of its size to be able to run a reasonable football team, an excellent Civic Theatre, and have such good shopping facilities in spitre of being so close to Sheffield, I thought it were marvellous ! Pity the planners have mucked it up though

I thought it was green wood, the twisted spire.
