Combe Martin is a village on the north Devon Coast. Combe Martin is just west of Illfracombe on the A399.
I noticed no review on Combe Martin and since it is holiday time and Combe Martin is a lovely seaside village to visit I thought I would tell you about it. I had a holiday here when I was 18/19 in 1973. A group of 6 of us 4 boys 2 girls hired a cottage for 2 weeks in the summer. I have passed through this village since then and it seems to have changed very little

This village is a very quiet peaceful place so why did a group of 4 boys and 2 girls choose to stay there in there youth? Well although we love music we did not want discos /pubs and entertainment every night. We wanted to explore the countryside to look at nature, birds, butterflies, flowers, We were young we were in love we were all very close friends so yes the two couples were looking for somewhere away from parents eyes.
The town is a linear town stretched along two miles of a high street with a few small roads leading off it. The village starts along a wooded valley that the river Umber has forged then stretches along the sea.
Combe Martin has a sandy pebbly cove the sand exposed at low tide there are also rock pools. This cove is enclosed by the craggy rugged coastline and is quite sheltered. The cove is very pretty.
The southwest coastal path stretches for a long way both sides of Combe Martin we walked a lot of this path and found it beautiful. We walked to Sandy cove and wild pear beach two small-secluded bays. There are many footpaths in this area that we discovered and explored.
The cottage we rented was on the high street. There seems to be some self-catering cottages available for rent in this village and some bed and breakfast accommodation.
There is a caravan and chalet park there set in woodland http://www.chycor2.co.uk/php/chycoroffsite2.php?ur l=http://www.jfhols.co.uk
There is an inn called the pack of cards built by an eccentric George Ley in 1626 to celebrate winning a fortune on cards. This pub does stand out it has 52 windows four floors 13 doors representing a pack of cards.
There are a couple of shops selling essentials and a fish and chip shop
There is a small museum in Combe Martin and since we were there a wildlife and dinosaur park has openedI cannot comment on it as I have not been but website address is http://info.dinosaur-park.com.
At one time silver was mined in Combe Martin and you can go on a walk to discover the old mines.
. There is a carnival held in combe martin starting on august 7th this year.
If you want a quiet peaceful holiday then I would recommend Combe Martin. Have a great time where ever you holiday Mary

Summary: a peaceful lovely holiday resort

I love the area - spent many happy hours climbing around Croyde Bay - and hope to move there one day.
