Covent Garden

Newest Review: ... are a few permanent shops too, niche businesses, the variety and richness of which make Covent Garden what it is. A few high street regulars have crept into the fray (with Body Shop and Monsoon being typical) and a couple of “tourist traps” have sprung up selling Union Jack clad memorabilia (but we should not complain for tourism is the major contributor to the lifeblood of this area) . Surrounding the market there are further, larger stores, all pretty new as they were incorporated in the new design of the Royal Opera House. Worthy of a mention... more

Crowned Review Covent Garden: Not a lot you can't do here! (1713 words)

So, you are spending the day in London but for whatever reason you have done “the major tourist sights” and can’t see the difference between shopping in Oxford Street and at your out of town mall (other than the fact that the mall is easier to park at, inside, less crowded, more compact but has the same shops). What do you do? You could do worse than head to that area of London called Covent Garden. Covent Garden is possibly one of the most ill-defined areas of London. Most people think only of the market when they hear the name but in truth the area spreads further than that, out to Leicester Square to the west and the Strand to the south, ...  Read the complete review

Covent Garden is one of the loveliest place of London with its open cafes, street singers and open market. It is perhaps the most vibrant place in London. The area is full of tourists, street performers and area residents and people from every background. You can see performers in the streets such as clowns, musicians, acrobats anytime of the day. They show their talents in Covent Garden. Most of the buildings around Central Market are from Victorian Period. I really love to drink my bear in those open cafes in Covent Garden. It is a such a lovely place. However, it is hard to stand crowd at the weekends, as it is extremely crowded. There are other different ...  Read the complete review

- dooyoo users give Covent Garden a 100% recommendation? How depressing. I've worked in and around Covent Garden for thirteen years now, so maybe I'm just a bit blase, but I have to say I find it overpriced, twee and with the exception of a few shops that I don't really consider to be part of Covent Garden, I hardly ever shop there. First of all, the market. This has different things on different days, the best being Saturday, when there are lots of handicraft stalls and the like. Go during the week and you'll find the two-pairs-of-leggings for £5 type of clothes on offer -hardly inspiring. Do not, however, expect to find bargains. Prices here ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Shopping in Covent Garden (552 words)

If you are visiting London, one of the best places to go for shopping is Covent Garden. It can be a bit of a tourist area, which seems like a bad thing (and sometimes is - it is easy to be ripped off by market traders whose chief customers are tourists), but it is also a good thing because there is always high-quality street entertainment and busking which gives the place atmosphere. There are two markets - Covent Garden and the Jubilee. Covent Garden market is partially undercover and has a range of small and exclusive shops, as well as craft stalls every day. Given its proximity to the Royal Opera House there are often opera singers busking outside ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Covent Garden: Anglo-Babylon. (646 words)

Covent Garden is easily accesable from the Picadilly Line on London's tube network or by Black-Taxi. Like most places in central London, don't even think of trying to drive in unless you want to get lost and stuck in traffic before drive around for ages trying to find somewhere to park for about £6/Hour. For a 20year-old student who lives on London's Green-Belt, Covent Garden is by far my favourite place. It is completely pedestrianised and filled with street entertainers and bustling with tourists all year round. There is no single feature about covent garden that makes it my favourite place in London; I can only put it down to the a ...  Read the complete review
