“ Kent / England „
Looking on this site and thinking about what to write about I thought what better than to review than my place of work - the area Crayford in Kent which is situated on the M25 junction 1. Crayford is known by locals as a ghost town - you can go through it without realising it, but at present it is undergoing massive changes including knocking down the town hall to make way for a housing area as well as a food hall to include various eateries.
Crayford itself has got a nice little shopping area with shops including Sports Direct, Next, Currys, Hobby Craft, Game and as with any towns a McDonalds which has a drive thru which is one of the only ones around this area. There has just been built a Nando's which is very popular with the locals. It also has the usual selection of hairdressers and betting shops, with a nice little river area with a seating area which is being developed as we speak as the local council are really trying to rejuvenate this area.
Crayford is also home to one of Kent's best live music pubs which is the Bear & Ragged Staff located just off the high street and gets packed most days of the week. It is a really good night out if you are in the area for a more mature crowd. There is a massive Sainsbury's located just off the high street with a Homebase next door to keep it company. Just round the corner from that there is Crayford dog track and Crayside Leisure Centre which is my place of work. I work in the leisure centre as a gym instructor and duty manager and I really like my job - if anyone wants to pop in feel free to do so. The dog track is a good night with admission on a Monday, Friday and Saturday night costing £6 per person as an entrance fee and you get a race card included. There is also a bar and two food outlets including a restaurant. There are two race meetings on a Tuesday and Thursday at lunch time and is free entry. Then on a Saturday morning there is a great deal for all the family where you can have breakfast and the kids can bet very small amounts of no more than 50p and enjoy the day.
Crayford is located in a reasonable area but with two towns located nearby which are vast by shopping standards and Bluewater shopping centre a 10 minute drive. Overall Crayford is going to need all the rejuvenation and a bit more to make it compete with the big boys, but I would recommend stopping off if you get the chance for a quick beer or a few bets.
A town and electoral ward in the London Borough of Bexley.
