Advantages: Lodge was lovely, relaxing, right on the lake
Disadvantages: Bad customer service
Yay my product suggestion worked!
Dacre park can be found in Bradesburton in Yorkshire. The park is about 25 minutes from hull, and about 15 minutes from the sea in Hornsea.
The park offers a number of lodges with private hot tubs and also has pitches for caravans.
We spent a week at Dacre park starting 14th February 2009.
We booked our 2 bedroom lodge by the side of the lake with hot tub through Hoseasons. We booked back in August 2008 and were really looking forward to our break.
The break was £400 for the week. That includes bed linen, towels, robes, slippers and electric/gas.
We arrived around 4.30pm (half an hour after arrival time). We pulled into a small gravel car park next to the reception/clubhouse. Our first impressed were the park looked very clean and tidy and welcoming.
The chap who greeted us at reception did come across rather blunt and quite flustered and not as welcoming as some other parks had been before that we had visited. He told us to follow his van to our lodge and said nothing more. He didn't ask our names or for confirmation.
We followed his van down a gravel track which was full of pot holes and very bumpy. We had lodge number 18, right in front of the lake which was beautiful.
He showed us into the lodge and showed us around and how to use various things. When we went out onto the veranda to see the hot tub we were greeted by around 15 ducks which was lovely.
Once he had left without saying much at all we had a good look around.
The lodge has an open plan living area with 2 brown leather sofas, coffee table, lcd tv and Dvd player. A dining table with 4 chairs. A kitchen complete with gas oven, dishwasher and fridge (with only a small ice pack freezer). The kitchen has plenty of cupboard space and includes all the necessities to cook and eat in the lodge.
The lodge has gas central heating which heated up so quickly the windows were often opened to cool down again.
The main bedroom was lovely with a big kingsize leather bed which was very comfortable. There was lots of wardrobe space and a dressing table with mirror. There was an ensuite bathroom also, shower over bath, sink, toilet and heated towel rail. The sink was very slow draining but i poured some hot water down it and it seemed to improve it.
The 2 bedroom had two twin beds and a small wardrobe.
The main bathroom had a shower cubicles, sink, toilet and heated towel rail.
We were given 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel each. Which to be fair i wasnt very impressed with. There is no laundry on site and no washing machine so using one towel the whole week was not that nice especially when you are in and out of the hot tub, and meant to shower before and after use. But we had to make do.
We were also given a robe (which didnt even go around my boobs, so luckily i brought my own along) and some slippers which we were allowed to take home.
On the veranda there was a large hot tub and a table and chairs. There is also a bbq that you could hire gas for. Apparently you could hire a patio heater too.
Everything in the lodge was very clean and tidy and welcoming.
We were given a welcoming folder (which had seen better days), this included a letter which annoyed me from the start. Stating they had left mop and bucket and broom for us to basically scrub the lodge before leaving and also we had to remove all of the bed linen and leave it "FOLDED" at the end of the bed! I had just paid £400 for a lodge i don't expect to have to scrub it aswell... they have cleaners who come in and are paid to do that why on earth should i have to? And leave the bed linen folded? did they want me to wash it and put it back on for them aswell? cheek lol!
Our stay in the lodge was lovely and relaxing, the hot tub is a fantastic added bonus. It was also covered so even if it rained you could have a dip! Looking out on the lake every morning made the stay even better, and the ducks were cute. We had some lovely walks around the lake, and took some fantastic photos.
The position of the park isn't fantastic.. all of the places we wanted to visit like York, Scarborough, Whitby etc are all well over an hour away and seemed to take forever to get to.
The little village the park is in has a local shop, costcutter, fish and chip shop and a Chinese restaurant. We used the fish and chip shop once and it is highly recommended it was delicious. But we didn't use the Chinese but it is apparently very popular with the locals.
It is about 25 minutes into Hull city centre, which to be fair doesn't offer a great deal. The shopping centre was rather boring. There is a large aquarium called "the deep" which we didn't visit but is very popular it seems.
The local market town of Driffield has a market on Thursdays (not worth getting out of bed for) and some local shops. It was okay for a little walk around.
The closest beach was Hornsea, we visited and had a nice walk along the beach but again it wasn't much to write home about.
The best places to visit if you don't mind the drive are Scarborough and York.
Scarborough offers the commercialized seaside town experience, plenty of arcades and fish and chip shops. York is very historic and has a lot of things to do such as the minster, dungeons etc.
Local shops to stock up (we went to Asda Hull what a nightmare!!) i would use either the costcutter in Bradesburton or Tesco at Beverly.
If you visit the park in the summer they have a wide range of watersports available at an extra charge. But the park was out of season so we didnt see or do any of this.
About half way through the week the chap who had welcomed us came and told us quite bluntly that we had to go around the lake to get out of the park now because they were relaying the much needed road into the lodges! Luckily we didn't get any noise from this!
Upon leaving we were told to leave the keys in the kitchen so we didnt even get to see anyone upon leaving and i didn't scrub the place either!
All in all our stay was lovely and relaxing, i would recommend the park to anyone who wants a quiet break but if you are looking for top customer service i wouldn't bother!
Summary: A great place to relax
