Advantages: Black swans, Gays Creamery, beach and putting green
Disadvantages: Lacking enough things to do
Dawlish is a delightful little seaside town on the North East coast of Devon.
It is one place I've visited what seems like every year since the dawn of time, but I haven't really. My first memories are with my dad and older sister going there on a day coach trip every year during the Summer holidays.
The beach itself is pretty shingly, but the nearby Dawlish Warren is mainly sandy.
It's a great train trip either stopping or going along the sea wall at Dawlish despite the occasional rock falls that have happened in recent years, and I love sitting on the beach and watching the trains going past in and out of the tunnels from or to Teignmouth. The station itself is right next to the sea.
It has a putting green, and a river/stream flows directly into the sea next to it, which flows next to a small park where during the Summer often there appears some kind of tent or show. For many there are 2 main attractions to Dawlish the Black Swans and Gays Creamery - which makes its own clotted cream, ice cream, cakes, pastries and a lot of other delicious products.
Oustide the holiday season you may find the odd car park offerinf free parking, but even in high season it's still reasonably priced (unlike many other seaside locations).
For a holiday, this is an area that you will find real enjoyment, but for activities you'll find it somewhat wanting.
Summary: For a short Summer holiday it offers good views and in easy reach of other beaches
